The DS4700 Express now comes in two different models, one with four FC ports (the "70" model) and one with eight FC ports (the "72"). The two versions scale up to 112 disk drives and 224 disk drives, respectively. Customers also have the option of attaching either the EXP710 or the recently announced EXP810 expansion unit to the back end. Also, for the first time in the DS4000 line, a new 4 Gbit disk drive option (15 rpm) is available on the DS4700. Also shipped with the IBM product is a feature called DACstore, which stores up to 512 Gbits of configuration metadata on every drive in the subsystem, meaning users can remove and replace the drive in another storage server that will recognize and read it. The products will be available starting June 9, 2006 after IBM completes internal testing on the Engenio boxes, according to IBM spokesman Craig Butler. The IBM System Storage DS4700 is available with starting list prices of $19,449. The pricing includes a 3-year warranty on hardware and software.
