EMC acquires Kashya
EMC Corp. announced that it has acquired Kashya Inc. in a cash transaction valued at approximately $153 million. Kashya's Israel-based research and development operation will form the core of the new EMC Israel Software Development Center. It will augment EMC Invista, EMC's block storage virtualization product. Kashya will also bump OEM Mendocino as the engine in future releases of EMC RecoverPoint software.
Packeteer acquires Tacit
WAN optimization startup Packeteer Inc. announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Tacit Networks Inc. "Packeteer … becomes the dominant supplier in the large and fast growing market segment for "branch office box" solutions," wrote the company in an open letter to stakeholders. "You will now be able to choose one supplier for both WAFS/CIFS/branch infrastructure requirements and … WAN optimization products."
The company said it would be announcing new products as a result of the acquisition in June 2006.
Intradyn updates e-mail archive
Intradyn Inc. announced today it has updated the software of its ComplianceVault06 e-mail archiving appliance for small and midsized businesses. New features include increased speed of searches, the ability to schedule searches to run automatically, user specified domain e-mail addresses can be added for searching, the ability to export the Audit Log and international character support. The upgrade is free to existing users and will be included in ComplianceVault06 for new customers.
Postini pushes new features
Postini Inc. announced the immediate availability of two new e-mail administration products. Directory Sync collects a list of authorized users and aliases from the directory server and keeps it in sync as records change. The Single Sign-On interface allows users, policies, authentication and authorizations to be defined by the customer and automatically synchronized with the Postini archiver.
Attune launches NAS virtualization
Attune Systems Inc. announced the Maestro File Manager FM5500, which it claims manages heterogeneous file server and file data resources without disrupting users or requiring cut-over deployments. Maestro supports three concurrent operational stages, including out-of-band discovery, native mode and extended mode, preserving the client view of content while providing policy-based management, resource discovery, alerts, reporting and error intervention in the background. The Maestro File Manager FM5500 is available now at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of U.S. $44,995.
