Storage Clips: HP acquires OuterBay

HP acquires OuterBay for database archiving
HP has signed a definitive agreement to acquire OuterBay for its database archiving software. HP claims that with OuterBay's software it can help organizations to more effectively manage database growth and improve database performance by up to 80%. OuterBay's product can archive Oracle, SQLServer and Sybase databases, as well as Oracle E-Business Suite, SAP and PeopleSoft applications. Headquartered in Cupertino, Calif., OuterBay has approximately 60 employees, approximately 100 customers and offices in the U.S., the U.K. and India. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction is subject to certain closing conditions and is expected to be completed within the next two weeks. Following completion, OuterBay will be substantially integrated into the StorageWorks division of HP's Technology Solutions Group.

Documentum supports life sciences regulations
EMC announced Documentum Submissions Manager for the Electronic Common Technical Document (eCTD). Available immediately, the new software is based on the EMC Documentum enterprise content management platform providing a way to help life sciences organizations speed new drug applications. It is designed to support the regulatory submissions process for the eCTD standard, which is a specification for the exchange of data between life sciences companies and regulatory agencies.

BakBone support NetApp VTL
BakBone Software announced NetVault: Backup support for the Network Apppliance NearStore Virtual Tape Library (VTL), which NetApp introduced this week. The combination of NetVault: Backup and NetApp NearStore VTL enables users to reduce backup and recovery times, BakBone said.

Sepaton, OnStor partner
Sepaton Inc. and OnStor Inc. announced a joint partnership to enable rapid NAS backup and restore using virtual tape technology. The combined offering includes OnStor's NAS gateway and Sepaton's VTL appliance. The University of California, Merced, has deployed the combined offering.

DataCore releases SANmotion for Windows
DataCore Software announced the general availability of Windows data migration capabilities that enable users to move and migrate live data disks over a SAN to other Windows systems across their organization. The new capabilities, launched today as SANmotion, offer a simplified and centralized approach to perform Windows volume administration by supporting new "ready to use" and pre-existing Windows formatted data volumes, the company said.
