Imation announces e-mail archiving appliance
Imation Corp. announced it will launch a VXA and LTO-enabled ComplianceVault e-mail archiving appliance with its partners Intradyn and Exabyte. The box continuously saves and indexes e-mail messages to disk, then archives and indexes them to tape at intervals specific to the needs of the company.

Fast and Neon partner mainframe search
Enterprise search developer Fast Search & Transfer, and mainframe integration firm Neon Systems Inc. announced a partnership that will integrate Fast's enterprise search product, Fast ESP, with Neon's Shadow RTE mainframe integration platform. The combined product will allow for searches of data on mainframe systems that are traditionally difficult and cumbersome to access.

Unitrends introduces SMB recovery system
Unitrends announced the availability of its Rapid Recovery System that targets small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) with an under $5,000 price tag. The Rapid Recovery System is designed to restore operating systems, applications and application data, or a single data file or individual e-mail.

IBM reports benchmarks
IBM announced that its storage virtualization product, the IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller, and one of its enterprise disk subsystem storage products, the IBM TotalStorage DS8300, have achieved top scores for performance as measured by the Storage Performance Council's latest benchmark. The SPC-2 benchmark consists of three application-oriented sequential I/O performance tests, which include large file processing, large database queries and video on demand.

The IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller demonstrated the best sequential throughput producing an average of 3,517 SPC-2 MBps. The IBM TotalStorage DS8300 garnered the number two overall score in the test with a submitted result of 3,217 SPC-2 MBps.

NEC chooses Emulex
Emulex announced that NEC Corp. has selected the Emulex LightPulse LPe1150 4 Gbps Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) for integration into its Express 5800 series of Windows 2000/2003-based servers. The Emulex LPe1150 host bus adapter includes native support for the high-performance PCI Express bus technology in NEC's new PCI Express based server line.

MTI offers restore management
MTI Technology Corp. announced it is now offering Restore-Illuminator, an application recovery management tool from Illuminator Inc. Restore-Illuminator audits an organization's applications and servers, detecting recovery issues before they occur. In addition, MTI has integrated Restore-Illuminator into its MTI Insight professional services offering.

Companies report boardroom shuffles
Data Domain announced that Michael O'Donnell has joined the company as government sales director. O'Donnell brings more than 20 years of experience in federal government sales for storage companies, such as Network Appliance, and will oversee Data Domain's government channel program.

NeoScale Systems Inc. announced that Andrew Moley has joined its executive team as chief financial officer (CFO). Before joining NeoScale, he was CFO for Inkra Networks and CEO of Egreetings Network Inc.

Avamar Technologies Inc. announced that Joe Julian has been appointed to its board of directors. Julian most recently served as the senior vice president, Americas sales and Global Accounts for Veritas Software.

Finally, Arkeia Corp. has announced the appointment of Alain Pechon as its new CEO. Pechon held previous management positions with Sun Microsystems, AMDAHL and EMC.
