Dell partners with Symantec
Dell announced it will be packaging Symantec Backup Exec 10d and the Symantec Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server with its hardware. Dell is pushing the package as a continuous disk backup product, and has also positioned it as a tiered storage architecture when the software is used with Dell PowerVault tape libraries behind the disk backup.
The new Symantec Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server Suite with Symantec Backup Exec 10d and Storage Exec is available today from Dell for $699. It remains to be seen how this move will sit with Dell's long-term business partner, EMC Corp., which also sells backup software.
NuView manages WAFS deployments
NuView Inc announced that its StorageX global namespace software will manage remote site architectures, including wide-area file services (WAFS), industry-standard file servers (i.e., Windows 2003) or NAS (i.e., Network Appliance) and Citrix MetaFrame. The Houston-based startup is actively building partnerships with WAFS companies and is currently the only player to offer remote site management for WAFS deployments.
3PAR adds 500 GB nearline drives
3PAR announced that 500 gigabyte Nearline drives are now available. 3PAR Nearline drives embed a Fibre Channel interface and are supported within the same enclosure as the 3PAR InServ Storage Server's Fibre Channel drives.
FalconStor supports Microsoft SQL Server 2005
FalconStor announced that its IPStor Enterprise Edition software, TimeMark and Snapshot Agent for SQL Server support Microsoft SQL Server 2005 are now generally available.
HP subsidiary to resell Golden Gate
GoldenGate Software Inc., which makes database backup products, announced that it has signed a reseller agreement with Hewlett-Packard's (HP) subsidiary in Israel. Under the terms of the agreement, GoldenGate's solutions offer a wide range of platforms, including Oracle, DB2 Mainframe, DB2 UDB and MS SQL Server and will be sold by HP Israel. In addition, HP Israel will provide technical support and professional services, and has completed sales and technical services training at GoldenGate's Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
GoldenGate has also expanded its EMEA operations with the recent hire of Richard Dobber as general manager EMEA.
