OnStor releases new gateway, announces customer
OnStor unveiled the Bobcat 2280 NAS gateway, featuring a FastPath accelerator chip for 40% more performance in streaming media, content delivery and large-scale file storage applications. The new platform is capable of 300 MBps sustained reads and 265 MBps sustained writes. Aggregate throughput on a clustered configuration of the box has been clocked at 1.2 GBps, the company said.

In a separate release, OnStor announced that MyPhotoAlbum has chosen its Bobcat 2260 NAS gateway to support its online photo sharing service. MyPhotoAlbum currently hosts 13 million photos on 28 terabytes (TB) of Nexsan ATABeast RAID storage, now accessed via an OnStor Bobcat 2260 NAS gateway. The MyPhotoAlbum deployment enables six Linux Web servers to access 14 TB of storage over NFS, supporting 1 million page views per day.

IBM integrates Brocade switches, tackles data integration
Brocade announced that it has shipped 4 Gbps embedded SAN switch modules for IBM BladeCenter. The switch modules are available in 10-port and 20-port models. The 10-port model can expand to 20 ports on demand. With the addition of the new 4 Gbps module, IBM now provides the complete Brocade line of 4 Gbps switches and directors.

IBM also announced it has dedicated 1,000 employees to software that integrates different pieces of related information. IBM has acquired five companies specializing in this type of technology in recent years. It will now combine those different products for "master data management."

Intradyn adds IM support
Intradyn said today that its ComplianceVault e-mail archiving appliances can now index, archive and search instant messages to meet regulatory, e-discovery and other internal company requirements, through a partnership it has formed with Akonix Systems of San Diego.

3Par certifies QLogic
3Par announced that the QLogic SANbox 5200 (2 Gbps) and 5600 (4 Gbps) switches have earned compatibility certification with 3Par InServ storage servers.

Microsoft, HP team in India
Microsoft Corp. India Pvt Ltd. and Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) India have entered into a new partnership, the companies announced. The two companies will roll out a "smart office" initiative aimed at small and midsized businesses, preloading versions of MS Office on hardware from HP.

StoneFly introduces OptiSAN
StoneFly Networks Inc. introduced StoneFly OptiSAN, which optimizes IP SAN bandwidth for applications, including SQL databases, transaction-oriented financial systems and streaming video. OptiSAN also includes storage consolidation and block-level provisioning services as well as centralized storage management, control and monitoring of logical storage volumes. The product is also bundled with StoneFly's Reflection product for local and campus synchronous mirroring, and snapshot capabilities.

VXA alliance grows
Exabyte announced its VXA packet tape format organization has added new members, including Adaptec, Computer Associates, Excelstor, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Ingram Micro, Symantec/Veritas, Tech Data, and TOLIS Group. These companies join founding members Imation, Matsushita Electric Industrial Ltd. (Panasonic), Sony, TDK and Exabyte.

AMCC demonstrates ATA storage
Applied Micro Circuits Corp. announced that it will demonstrate SATA II RAID products for high-performance computing systems based on its recently announced 3ware 9550SX controllers at SuperComputing 2005 Nov. 15–17.

Verari systems unveils InfiniBand array
Verari Systems announced the VS7000i native InfiniBand-attached storage system, based on the Verari Systems VS7000 controller sourced from Engenio.
