Copan adds archiving to MAID
Copan Systems Inc. announced a new version of its massive array of idle disks (MAID) system that supports archiving. The box will retrieve data based on metadata, not hash keys, and is designed to compete with EMC's Centera. The new array, the Revolution 200A, was announced at Storage Decisions and is based on the company's existing hardware platform. It will be available in January and will sell for about $3 per gigabyte.
DataDirect unveils InfiniBand array
DataDirect Networks will unveil its Silicon Storage Appliance 9500 (S2A 9500) systems at the SuperComputing show in Seattle next week. Each box can deliver over 3 GBps with 480 terabytes of storage in just two racks. The company will demonstrate the S2A 9500 fibre disk system, S2A 9500 disk-based nearline SATA, S2A 9500 InfiniBand and S2A NAS/SAN systems.
Sun opens HPC center
Sun announced the opening of its Sun Solution Center for High-Performance Computing (HPC), a cutting-edge facility located in Hillsboro, Ore., that is designed to make HPC practical and attainable for a wide array of customers and partners, it said.
