HP unveils SMB backup package
Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) has launched HP StorageWorks Data Protector Express backup and recovery software for small and midsized businesses (SMB). The company claims Data Protector Express features an easy-to-use interface with common functionality across Windows, Netware and Linux environments, reducing the need for separate software tools for each platform. Tape, disk and CD/DVD are supported as backup media. Pricing is $779 and is common across all operating systems and includes one year of support during business hours and software update rights.
HP also launched the HP StorageWorks MSA 1510i a SAN array with an iSCSI interface. In addition, users can take their internal disks on HP Smart Array Controllers directly out of existing HP ProLiant servers and move them into the MSA 1510i enclosure, an industry-exclusive feature, which results in lower risk of data loss when a customer is moving from DAS to external storage. U.S. list pricing starts at $7,995 for the MSA 1510i base configuration.
CentrePath upgrades Magellan
CentrePath Inc. has released a new version of its SAN management software, Magellan DataPath Manager, which adds support for Linux and provides root-cause analysis to help customers manage network topologies and predict outages before they occur. The software, which moves from a host bus adapter on the server through SAN switches, Fiber Channel extension gear and high-speed WAN devices, shows the user a schematic of their environment, including devices, applications and the connections between them identifying bottlenecks, outages and potential problems. The software also works with management tools like Tivoli, allowing them to see both the raw event stream and injected data from Magellan's performance and event monitoring.
Maxtor introduces 3 Gbps SATA II
Maxtor Corp. is introducing the 3 Gbps SATA interface on its enterprise Maxtor MaXLine III and desktop DiamondMax 10 hard drives. The 7,200 RPM drives will begin shipping this quarter in capacities up to 300 GB, with up to a 16 MB buffer and SATA II features, including native command queuing, staggered spin up, hot-plug capability and asynchronous signal recovery.
Optelecom-NKF uses Sepaton
Sepaton Inc. announced that video transmission systems manufacturer Optelecom-NKF, Inc. has replaced its tape library with the Sepaton S2100 virtual tape library appliance. Previously, the company was archiving data with Iron Mountain.
KOM to demo digital shredding
KOM Networks will display data shredding capabilities using KOMworx Compliance software and Plasmon's Compliant Write Once Media at the Storage Expo 2005 in London.
AXS-One adds resellers in Asia-Pacific
AXS-One Inc. announced that it has expanded its reseller network in Asia through new partnership agreements with five of the region's resellers: BayanTrade, Datapro Computer Systems, Magnus Philippines, NEXUS System Resources and Siemens Information Systems.
