Top sales VP to leave Symantec
Allyson Seelinger, Symantec Corp.'s vice president of global channel sales and strategy, will leave the company Oct. 14, the company said in a statement. Seelinger, an 18-year Symantec employee, will be replaced by Julie Parrish, Symantec's vice president of enterprise, midmarket and channel marketing. Parrish previously oversaw the channel for Symantec's newly acquired subsidiary, Veritas Software Corp.

FirstMerit Bank chooses IBM virtualization
IBM announced that FirstMerit Bank, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, has virtualized its10 terabyte repository of transaction records and financial data with IBM. FirstMerit's SAN infrastructure is comprised of two IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controllers hosted by IBM eServer BladeCenters, which are supported by IBM TotalStorage DS4400.

Samsung ships iSCSI storage server, new SATA disks
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd and DataCore Software Corp. announced that Samsung will combine its servers and DataCore's SANmelody software to build entry-level systems aimed at the Korean marketplace beginning this month. In addition, Samsung will develop a joint sales and marketing program with DataCore to target disaster recovery users.

In a separate release, Samsung announced a new 2.5-inch SATA hard disk, the M40S series. The new drives are offered in three capacities, including the 40 GB HM040HI ($80 estimated price), the 60 GB HM060II ($100) and the 80 GB HM080JI ($140). All three new drives are currently shipping.

QLogic HBAs qualified by EMC
QLogic Corp. announced that its SANblade 4Gb Fibre Channel (host bus adapters) HBAs have been qualified by EMC Corp. as E-Lab Tested. The new HBAs will be used to connect EMC CLARiiON and Symmetrix arrays to servers with PCI-X 2.0 and PCI-Express slots. Both single and dual-port versions of SANblade 4Gb HBAs have been qualified by EMC and feature a warranty of up to five years

Atempo to offer Apple data protection seminars
Atempo Inc. announced a national seminar series, organized in partnership with Apple Inc. to present data protection strategies for successful information lifecycle management in Apple environments. The sessions will include live demonstrations of Atempo's Time Navigator data protection deployed on Apple Xserve and Xserve RAID running on Mac OS X Server.
