NetApp targets government
Network Appliance Inc. (NetApp) has released SupportEdge Secure for Government, which allows filtering of restricted or classified information from government files prior to making them visible to support engineers troubleshooting a system. In the case of filtered information being restricted, NetApp will send people with the appropriate security clearances to the customer's facility.

Winternals announces Windows Server 2003 recovery
Winternals Software LP has announced that its Winternals Recovery Manager will recover systems corrupted by faulty deployment of Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. Some users have reported that the patch, released earlier this year and set to activate on systems with automatic updates installed by the end of July, has conflicts with some other applications. Currently, Microsoft does not provide an undo option in the event of compatibility conflicts.

Riverbed announces wide-area data services
Riverbed Technology Inc. announced the 2.0 version of its Steelhead product line today. The product offers application-level support for SQL, the ability to continue to serve files in the event of a WAN outage, high-speed TCP on Steelhead appliances, IPSEC encryption between appliances, improved 1:1 failover and optional 4-port Gigabit Ethernet network interface cards. Steelhead 2.0 also has improved Exchange 2003 and CIFS performance and revised the graphical user interface.

Asigra reaches 3 PB milestone
Asigra Inc. has announced it now manages 3 petabytes of data through its Televaulting software. The company also reported a 200% increase in revenue over the past year.

Xiotech bundles up with Spectra Logic
Xiotech Corp. and Spectra Logic Corp. have announced that the Spectra T950, T120 and T50 product lines will combine Xiotech disk arrays and Spectra Logic's T-series libraries. Customers can purchase the bundled tape and disk array starting in August.

Lasso Logic ships CDP
Startup Lasso Logic announced today that it will begin shipping Lasso continuous data protection (CDP), a low end, automated backup tool aimed at the small and midsized (SMB) market. The disk-based product includes user-level instant data recovery, central administration, and off-site data protection for around $1,500. Lasso is also working with a number of channel partners to resell the product and to offer remote backup outsourcing.

StorageTek schedules shareholder vote
Storage Technology Corp. (StorageTek) announced that it will hold a special shareholder meeting on Aug. 30, 2005 for shareholders to vote on the company's proposed merger with Sun Microsystems Inc. The StorageTek proxy statement for the meeting will be mailed to StorageTek shareholders of record as of July 26, 2005.

New DR startup announced
SafeData LLC, aimed at providing business continuity and disaster recovery services for the SMB market, was officially launched today. Its president, Peter Briggs, is the founder of integrator ADS Inc.

BakBone names new head for Europe, Middle East and Africa
BakBone Software Inc. has named Chris Ross its new vice president of sales and operations for its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions. Ross replaces Patrick Clarke, who has left the company. Ross most recently served as the vice president of EMEA for Symantec Corp.

Availl posts growth rate
Software maker Availl Inc. today announced that Q2 2005 ending June 2005 marked the company's fourth consecutive quarter of revenue growth at an over 100% annual rate. Availl's WAFS and CDP products are now in use at over 1,000 sites including 12 of the Fortune 500, the company said. Founded in 2002, Availl has been continuously profitable for two years.
