EMC adds virtual pooling to Centera
EMC Corp. announced today that it has developed virtual pooling for its Centera fixed-content archiving system. Virtual pooling enables administrators to create separate logical pools of fixed content, such as e-mails. EMC is also launching replication software that enables remote replication of selected pools of data rather than an entire physical cluster. Separately, EMC unveiled new consulting services around information lifecycle management (ILM).
IBM to resell Veritas cluster server
Veritas Software Corp. announced an agreement that allows IBM to resell its Cluster Server and Storage Foundation products with IBM eServer xSeries and BladeCenter servers for RedHat, SUSE Linux and Microsoft Windows.
NuView adds space optimizer
NuView Inc. announced that version 3.0 of its File Lifecycle Manager (FLM) software now supports simultaneous NFS and CIFS access; a new feature called primary space optimizer that automatically remigrates restored files back to the secondary store, thereby optimizing space on the primary storage device; a scalable way to archive data across multiple pools of secondary storage; and adaptive archival capabilities to make exceptions on migrating files that are frequently used. NuView has close to about 50 FLM customers.
HP refreshes scalable file system
Hewlett Packard Co. announced Scalable File Share 2.0, which doubles the capacity of the file system to 512 terabytes (TB) and triples the bandwidth to 35 GBps. An entry level is now available with 1 TB of storage and 200 MBps throughput for $44,000. The company has about six sites it announced that are using the product, which began shipping a year ago.
EqualLogic touts banking customers
ISCSI array manufacturer EqualLogic announced Fidelity Bank, HomeBanc, PanAgora, Orange County Credit Union, UVEST Financial Services, Fortis Prime Fund Solutions, COCC, Mesirow Financial, Schenck Business Solutions, Bond Market Association, SDC Udvikling, Ramco-Gershen Properties Trust, Security National Bank, Litle & Company and Advanced Financial Solutions have all deployed its IP SAN PS array technology.
Xiotech unveils mobile SAN
Xiotech Corp. launched the Magnitude 3D 1000m mobile SAN aimed at government organizations deploying storage in remote locations. Magnitude 3D 1000m is a fully configured, self-contained, modular storage system that can be transported and quickly deployed, and features all the storage, SAN, Ethernet and gateway capabilities needed to place a data collection and analysis system in a lab or field location, the company claims.
Revivio starts channel program
Continuous data protection startup Revivio Inc. announced that it has launched a channel program to boost its sales. Since it was founded in 2001, Revivio has concentrated on taking its product directly to the market to establish accounts, and so far has about 20 customers -- or about $2 million in revenue. Its initial channel partners include: Bear Data Systems, Nth Generation, SANZ, Transaction Line and VeriStor Systems. In early fall the company plans to introduce a smaller form factor version of its system, which will be more "channel friendly" said a company spokesperson.
CreekPath groups storage assets by business function
CreekPath Systems announced that version 3.5 of its software categorizes storage assets logically, allowing organizations to classify them according to business structures. These include: by application, geographic location, data center, business initiative or any other organizational method. Based on grouping tools and reports, CreekPath suite 3.5 provides a consolidated, global view into storage resources from a single reporting portal and organizing the assets in a logical manner.
