Seagate unveils disk encryption
Seagate Technology introduced a 2.5-inch drive utilizing perpendicular recording, the highest capacity external and portable hard drives with Full Disc Encryption for protection of users' personal data. The company also unveiled a 2.5-inch drive for DVRs and game consoles, and an 8 GB drive for portable media players.

Los Alamos deploy Panasas storage cluster
Panasas Inc. announced that Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is using the Panasas ActiveScale Storage Cluster to enable its Pink supercomputer to operate without local disks in the compute cluster. By eliminating local disks, LANL has achieved significant improvements in reliability and availability, increasing the mean time between failures for Pink's compute nodes from once a week for a comparable system to once every seven weeks, according to Panasas.

RockSoft releases data de-duplication toolkit
Rocksoft Limited, a data redundancy elimination provider, announced the release and availability of version 1.2b of the Blocklets Core Technology Portfolio Toolkit for developers. Blocklets eliminates data redundancy within networking and storage architectures, the company claims.

TimeSpring, ProSys partner
TimeSpring Software Corp. and ProSys Information Systems Inc. announced an agreement under which ProSys will offer TimeSpring TimeData continuous data protection software to corporate, public sector and educational organizations in the Southeast.
