Storage Clips: Adaptec, Gateway soup up NAS servers

Adaptec soups up Snap Server
Adaptec Inc. announced that it has enhanced its Snap Server 4500 product line with a faster 3.0 GHz Pentium processor as well as increased storage scalability (up to 13.6 terabytes (TB) with the addition of Adaptec Snap Disk 30 expansion arrays). It starts at $3,995 and is available now.

Gateway enhances low-end NAS boxes
Gateway Inc.'s SATA-based 9315 and 9415 NAS systems now use Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 software. They support the latest 64-bit Intel Xeon processors and include three internal SATA hard drives with hardware RAID-5 support, as well as PCI-X and PCIe support. The Gateway 9315 Storage Server is an entry-level NAS product with up to 1.2 TB of raw internal storage. The unit has the option to attach additional external storage. The 9315 Storage Server is priced at $2,197 and the 9415 Storage Server is priced at $2,098.

HP resells Sonasoft
Sonasoft Corp. announced that Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) will resell its backup and recovery software for Microsoft Exchange, SQL and Windows servers. Customers can directly buy Sonasoft software from HP along with HP hardware.

Availl boosts WAFS performance
Availl Inc. announced the immediate availability of a new software product, Availl 3.0, that provides wide-area file services with real-time file locking and full coherence. Already deployed by PepsiCo. Inc. and other Fortune 100 companies, Availl provides file sharing and server-to-server mirroring across any distance, with full coherency and local file performance at true hard-drive access speeds, the company claims.
