Veritas releases beta of Panther
Veritas Software Inc. announced the public beta of Panther, its continuous data protection software product and a unified console for its CommandCentral services storage resource management product.
Brocade builds switch module for Intel blade servers
Brocade Communications Systems Inc. announced that it will provide an integrated SAN switch module for the Intel Enterprise Blade Server. The module is a 16-port fabric switch enables connectivity between up to 14 server blades in a chassis and two external storage devices. Server blades -- which are independent servers with their own processors, memory, operating system, applications and host bus adapters -- slide into a bay in a single chassis and plug into a high-availability midplane that allows the sharing of power, fans, network switches and peripheral devices.
Rocket Software buys Servergraph for $10M
Rocket Software Inc., a Boston-based developer of enterprise infrastructure products, announced it has acquired Servergraph Inc., a Texas company that develops reporting and analysis software for data backup. Servergraph's product suite provides proactive management and automation for backup and recovery, along with graphing and drill-down tools for problem isolation, performance tuning and billing by application or cost center -- from a Web-based console.
Virgin Mobile selects GlassHouse
Virgin Mobile Telecoms Ltd., a major U.K. mobile phone operator, has selected GlassHouse Technologies Inc. to radically overhaul its storage infrastructure. The deal will see GlassHouse deliver a complete storage management framework that will centralize and manage Virgin's growing storage needs.
EMC demos Invista
EMC Corp. will demonstrate its recently launched Invista network storage virtualization product at Storage Decisions in Chicago, this week. The product will perform network-based volume management, volume migration across both EMC and third-party storage devices, and heterogeneous point-in-time copies across multiple types of storage.
Bocada touts compliance success
Bocada Inc. announced that 30 more of its BackupReport customers have successfully passed federal regulatory compliance audits of their data backup operations. Bocada will show its BackupReport product at the Storage Decisions Conference in Chicago, this week.
Signiant releases ActiveArchiver
Signiant Inc. launches ActiveArchiver, a customizable metadata search tool that allows users to retrieve files, groups of files or the entire archive, using "human definable" business terms, such as project name, customer or other keywords.
The active data archive process is automated through a Web-based central control module. Users define the archive content, which may reside in multiple systems in development centers distributed around the globe, and then ActiveArchiver aggregates the selected files to the selected archive repository. Preprocessing can be performed as desired, such as organizing or compressing the files. The user also defines retention policies and access rights. Once files are moved to the active archive repository and verified for accuracy and completeness, they can be automatically removed from the source, freeing up primary storage space for future design projects.
Maxell ships LTO-3 tape with WORM support
Maxell Corp. announced that it is now shipping LTO Ultrium 3 tape media featuring a write once, read many functionality.
