Storage Clips: IBM introduces 4 Gbps array

IBM adds 4 Gbps array to midrange line
IBM has extended its midrange storage family by introducing a new 4 Gbps array. The new IBM TotalStorage DS4800 is a rebranding of the Engenio Information Technologies Inc. 6998 4Gbps Fibre Channel array. The IBM DS4800 models 82A and 84A are scheduled to begin shipping on June 17, 2005 starting at $54,000. IBM has lowered the price point of the DS4500 from $66,500 to $49,950 and is withdrawing the DS4400.

Separately, the company announced that it has increased the number of hosts that can attach to its SAN Volume Controller (SVC) software from 128 to 256 servers. SVC version 2.1.1 will be available May 13, starting at $44,500.

XOsoft launches replication testing for DR
Continuous data protection provider, XOsoft, announced Assured Recovery, a software product that performs a full test of data and application recoverability, reducing the cost associated with testing the accuracy of replicated data. According to a recent survey by TheInfoPro, this cost is estimated at anywhere between $30,000 and $1 million per test.

NetApp supports Symantec recovery products
Network Appliance Inc. announced certification of its products for use with Symantec LiveState Recovery and Symantec LiveState Recovery Manager. The combined offering proactively addresses system and data protection in Windows environments. Symantec LiveState Recovery provides an exact point-in-time copy of its systems and data to recover in case of disaster caused by a security-related event, corruption or software/hardware failure. When used in combination with NetApp SnapLock software, users can lock down regulated data for months or years to meet regulatory compliance requirements.

Engenio, Brocade certify 4 Gbps products
Engenio Information Technologies Inc. announced that it has certified the Brocade Communications Systems Inc. SilkWorm 4100 SAN switch for compatibility with Engenio's 6998, 4 Gbps Fibre Channel array and existing family of 1 Gbps and 2 Gbps Fibre Channel products.
