Juniper snaps up Peribit
Router manufacturer, Juniper Networks Inc. has acquired wide area file services (WAFS) maker Peribit Networks Inc. for $337 million. WAFS or WAN optimization technology is a way for companies with lots of remote sites to centralize their data and then provide fast access to it over the WAN. The idea is to get rid of storage gear at remote sites that is difficult to manage. Juniper's acquisition of Peribit follows Cisco's move into this space via the acquisition of Actona Technologies Inc. last year.
Law firm migrates from DAS to iSCSI SAN
Detroit-based law firm, Dickinson Wright has migrated from a DAS infrastructure to an iSCSI SAN from EqualLogic Inc. "The Fibre Channel platforms we reviewed do not match the flexibility, scalability and feature set of the EqualLogic PS arrays. Also, the PS Series solution works well with our new blade server environment, which depends on a shared pool of storage for on-the-fly provisioning of new servers and applications," said a spokesperson for the law firm.
Fastora offers backup for the home
Fastora announced the ExBoot EXB-0131 that backs up operating systems, programs and all files. It is targeted at small office and home users. The ExBoot is available in several configurations: 160 GB ($185), 250 GB ($235), 300 GB ($335) and 400 GB ($440).
