BlueArc CEO steps aside
Gianluca Rattazzi, BlueArc Corp.'s chairman of the board since the company's inception and CEO since 2002, is handing over the reigns to Mike Gustafson, adding to his role as president. Rattazzi will continue in his responsibilities as BlueArc's executive chairman. The move follows a similar departure by BlueArc's chief technology officer, Geoff Barrell in September, 2004. Industry watchers say BlueArc is undertaking a "resuscitation plan" and is in need of more funding.

Sepaton upgrades VTL
Virtual Tape Library (VTL) startup, Sepaton Inc., will announce a new version of its product dubbed the S2100-ES2, on Monday. Significant improvements include increased capacity from 200 terabytes to 1 petabyte; eight Fibre Channel connections on the front end instead of three for faster throughput and an Intel-based adaptor instead of a proprietary Peripheral Component Interconnect board. The company has also improved its management interface with a Web-based GUI and added software compression. Sepaton has about 50 customers with its first product.

Nexsan, Diligent pair up on VTL
Nexsan Technologies and Diligent Technologies Corp. announced integration of Diligent's VTF Open VTL software and Nexsan's SATA/ATA-based disk arrays to allow users to implement disk rather than tape in their backup and recovery operations.
