HP names new CEO
Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) announced that its board of directors has named Mark Hurd as the company's CEO and president. Hurd, 48, has served since March 2003 as president and CEO of NCR Corp., where he has spent his 25-year career in a range of general management, operations, and sales and marketing positions. Patricia Dunn, HP's nonexecutive chairman, said that the HP board unanimously selected Hurd based on his track record leading a complex organization, and his strong executive qualities.
Iron Mountain/Connected certified with Centera
Iron Mountain Inc. announced that its Connected DataProtector/PC product is interoperable with EMC Centera after passing tests designed by the EMC Centera Certification Program. This certification ensures that Connected DataProtector/PC interfaces effectively with EMC Centera. According to the companies, DataProtector/PC and EMC Centera will provide organizations with a cost-effective way to automatically protect data on desktops and laptops and quickly access this data in the event of a business disruption.
StorageTek certifies Troika, StoreAge
Troika Networks Inc., StoreAge Networking Technologies and StorageTek have jointly announced that SAN Volume Suite, a fabric-based storage management and data protection product offered by Troika in partnership with StoreAge, is interoperable with StorageTek's disk storage products. This qualifies Troika and StoreAge as new members of the TekAlliance Partner Program at StorageTek.
DataCore and Rise to sell SANmelody
French storage company Rise Storage Networks announced that the company is teaming with DataCore Software Corp. to market and sell disk servers, iSCSI appliances and virtual infrastructure software based on DataCore SANmelody. SANmelody is disk server software that allows users to add disk space over a SAN or existing LAN without the need to reconfigure hardware, open up systems or reboot application servers. Rise will distribute SANmelody-based systems to small and medium-sized businesses and enterprise-level users. Rise has also set up a demo center in Paris to demonstrate DataCore's products and to work with its customers.
Idera launches backup for SQL
Idera announced Version 2.0 of its SQLsafe backup and recovery software. The new version is designed for enterprise-level SQL Server implementations. SQLsafe provides compressed and encrypted backup, multi-server backup management and a central repository of backup and restore information.
