HDS releases remote replication
Hitachi Data Systems Corp. (HDS) announced the general availability of Hitachi TrueCopy remote replication software across EMC, IBM and HDS storage systems that are attached to the Hitachi TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform. TrueCopy is now available for the following storage systems: EMC Symmetrix DMX 800, 1000, 2000, 3000 and Symmetrix 3000, 5000 and 8000 series storage systems, EMC Clariion CX series storage systems, IBM FastT900/DS4000 and IBM TotalStorage ESS800 models.
Cisco unveils storage software strategy
Cisco Systems Inc. announced its MDS 9000 Storage Services Module, which is an open, standards-based FAIS API module for Cisco's MDS switch line that enables ISVs to write virtualization and other intelligent fabric applications to run on the switch. EMC and Veritas Software Corp. will be the first partners to offer applications for this module.
The networking giant also announced the MDS 9000 SANTap Service, a protocol that operates between the Storage Services Module and a SANTap-enabled storage software appliance. The appliances will be provided by partners including Cloverleaf, FalconStor, Kashya, Topio and Xiotech.
Thirdly, Cisco announced Network-Accelerated Serverless Backup, which uses the standards-based Extended Copy technique to off-load the data movement from backup servers to the Storage Services Module, enabling IT administrators to backup large amounts of data in shorter backup windows. Computer Associates, Commvault Systems Inc. and Veritas are expected to be among the first backup software vendors to support Network Accelerated Serverless Backup using the Storage Services Module.
Arkeia refreshes backup software
Arkeia Corp. announced an upgrade and new pricing model for Arkeia Server Backup, which is backup software designed for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with centralized Linux servers. The new pricing model is determined by data volume so that SMBs can pay on an as-needed basis. New enhancements to the software include, support for tape autoloaders, automatic multiflow backup from disks, a choice of simple or detailed log reports and compatibility with new Arkeia hot backup plug-ins.
DataCore gets European reseller
European supplier of VMware Inc. software, Magirus, has signed a strategic agreement with DataCore Software Corp. to market and distribute DataCore's storage networking software to small and medium-sized businesses and enterprises looking to deploy virtualization infrastructures.
