ADIC steps up support for HP
Advanced Digital Information Corp.'s (ADIC) new StorNext version 2.5 software features expanded interoperability with several products from Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP). These include HP-UX 11i v2 operating system support both on Itanium and PA-RISC platforms, support for HP ESL 712e automated tape library targets, and expanded support for HP SecurePath in HP-UX 11i environments. The expanded platform qualification will provide joint customers of ADIC and HP with a range of options, allowing them to deploy policy-based data management for HP environments and for systems that mix HP with other storage and operating platforms.
NuView supports CIFS and NFS
NuView Inc.'s StorageX version 5.5 enables users, for the first time, to build a unified global namespace across CIFS and NFS protocols, and perform policy-based heterogeneous data management across Linux, Solaris, Microsoft Windows and Network Appliance Inc. systems. For example, administrators using StorageX 5.5 can now centrally unify CIFS and NFS storage resources and allocate them to applications and users transparently, and on demand, NuView claims.
Symantec centralizes management of remote backup
Symantec Corp. announced that its LiveState Recovery 3.0 product now has a centralized policy-engine for managing remote locations. Symantec LiveState Recovery Manager lets administrators automatically enable remote systems for rapid recovery and centrally monitor the backup status of remote systems. Available in April, it also aids regulatory compliance by auto-discovering systems that are not backed up regularly, providing graphical views of backup status and consolidating audit history information.
Arsenal Digital, Time Warner sell off-site backup
Time Warner Cable Commercial Services Raleigh Division will team with Arsenal Digital Solutions to offer ViaRemote, Arsenal's data protection service. Time Warner Cable will brand the service as ViaRemote Managed Storage, and offer it as a disk-based backup and restore utility to protect data to an off-site location over its broadband network. Customers can back up data from servers, PCs and laptops to a secure off-site facility.
IBM OEMs Brocade and McData routers
IBM announced that it is offering new IBM TotalStorage branded routers based on products from Brocade Communications Systems Inc. and McData Corp. Big Blue will ship the Brocade SilkWorm Multiprotocol Router as the IBM TotalStorage 2109-A16 SAN Router. The product is designed to help share resources across SAN islands by using Logical SANs that maintain separate fabrics, preventing disruptions in the network. IBM is also rebranding the McData Intrepid 10000 Backbone Director called the TotalStorage SAN256M Director, as well as McData's Eclipse 2640 SAN Router, rebranded IBM TotalStorage SAN16M-R SAN Router.
Creekpath supports Cisco
Storage management software provider, CreekPath Systems, announced support for the Cisco MDS 9000 family of multilayer fabric switches and directors. This support allows CreekPath users to manage their networked storage environment through a single, independent storage management system, Creekpath claims.
AMCC demos SATA RAID
Applied Micro Circuits Corporation announced working hardware RAID demonstrations featuring the benefits of ultra-fast 3 Gbps line speeds. The new technology will also have support connectivity with Port Multiplication, increased random performance with Native Command Queuing support and integration, and failover with Port Selection support, the company said.
Maxxan expands channel
Maxxan Systems, Inc. announced details of its enhanced Maxxan Elite Partner program designed to assist partners in generating and finalizing sales, as well as implementing the company's intelligent storage products. The new program includes: sales lead generation and lead distribution to partners, dedicated Maxxan sales and professional services reps, and on-site sales and technical training.
