EMC OEMs software to improve Centera
EMC announced an OEM agreement with FAST Search and Transfer (FAST) for its InStream enterprise search engine software. EMC will integrate FAST's software with its Centera operating system to improve its search capabilities. Stay tuned for more details.
Tacit adds email services
Wide-area file services (WAFS) player Tacit Networks has added a stack of new applications to its remote office appliance, including print services, Web caching, e-mail consolidation and acceleration, remote management and security services. The most compelling is the e-mail consolidation module that enables companies to get rid of remote e-mail servers and manage this application centrally. All attachments are held at the central office until someone requests one. At this point, the WAFS engine is invoked to send the attachment. A copy then sits in cache in the remote appliance for as long as it's needed. The modules will be sold separately on top of the price of the WAFS engine.
Emulex offers 4 Gbps components with PCI Express
Emulex unveiled its family of 4 Gbps Fibre Channel host bus adapters
(HBA) and I/O Controllers with a native PCI Express interface.
Based on Emulex's latest generation I/O Controller, code-named Zephyr,
the 4 Gbps LPe11000 family of HBAs is designed specifically for use
within emerging PCI Express-based servers and other embedded
applications. Emulex will begin sampling to OEMs next quarter.
ExaGrid expands
ExaGrid Systems announced the expansion of its direct and indirect sales channels. Resellers Bishop Technologies Inc. and Tri-Delta Resources have been signed and ColoSpace -- a managed service provider -- is already using ExaGrid's Advanstor product to store the data of more than a dozen ColoSpace customers. ExaGrid also announced expansion of its direct sales force into the midwest, New York, Texas and California regions.
Broadcom adds PCI Express
Broadcom announced its latest chip offering in the NetXtreme II family of Gigabit Ethernet converged network interface controllers (C-NICs). The new NetXtreme II C-NIC supports the PCI Express bus architecture as well as a TCP/IP offload engine, iSCSI and remote direct memory access on a single-chip platform.
