CNT reports net loss of $90M for Q3
Computer Network Technology Corp. (CNT) reported financial results for the third quarter ended October 31, 2004. On the basis of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the company reported a net loss for the third quarter of 2004 of $90.3 million compared to a net profit of $237,000 in the third quarter of 2003. Revenue totaled $89 million, compared to $97.3 million in the third quarter of 2003. Though down from a year ago, the revenue of $89 million is a 15% sequential increase from $77.2 million in the second quarter of 2004. Revenue and operating results for the third quarter and nine months of 2004 and 2003 include the acquisition of Inrange Technologies on May 5, 2003.
Brocade reports increased revenue, net income
Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. reported financial results for its fourth quarter of fiscal year 2004 which ended October 30, 2004. Reporting on a GAAP basis, net income for the fourth quarter was $20.4 million, versus $17.0 million in the previous quarter, and $14.8 million for the same period a year ago. Revenues for Q4 were $155.6 million, an increase of 4% from $150 million reported in the third quarter of this fiscal year and an increase of 13% from $137.8 million reported in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2003. Net revenues for fiscal year 2004 were $596.3 million, an increase of 14% from $525.3 million reported in fiscal year 2003. .
IBM to OEM Brocade switch
Brocade Communications Systems, Inc., announced that IBM has completed
qualification of the Brocade SilkWorm 4100 4 Gigabit per second (Gbit/sec)
SAN switch technology and is now offering IBM TotalStorage-branded switches based on the SilkWorm family. The product will be sold as the IBM TotalStorage SAN32B-2 fabric switch within the IBM TotalStorage networked storage solution product line. The TotalStorage SAN32B-2 fabric switch has been qualified for use with IBM eServer iSeries, pSeries and xSeries servers. The SilkWorm 4100 family features redundant and hot-swappable power supplies and cooling fans; hot-swappable SFP media; hot code loading and activation; enterprise-level security; and fabric management. Each of the 32 ports is auto-sensing for data link speeds of 1, 2, or 4 Gbit/sec.
Asaca to demo world's first optical storage library
On Sunday, November 28th at this year's RSNA in Chicago, Ill., Asaca Corporation, a developer of data storage products, will introduce the world's first blue laser optical storage library incorporating bare media from Sony Electronics. This latest addition to Asaca's family of TeraCart optical libraries, the TeraCart PD is based on a new Professional Disc for DATA technology from Sony, utilizing cartridge-free media for scaleable capacities ranging from 2TB to over 33TB in a single library while requiring no more than a four square foot of floor space. The library offers 9MB/second write speeds and 11MB per second read.
Unitrends software interoperable with Sony SAIT drives
Unitrends Software Corp., a provider of enterprise-wide data protection products and services, announced it has certified its full line of integrated Data Protection Units (DPUs) and software for use with Sony Electronics' SAIT drives and media. Unitrends said that the announcement means that firms now have more options to protect their important data by implementing a true disk-to-disk-to-tape strategy. Unitrends DPUs enable firms to backup to disk and also simply attach tape drives, such as Sony SAIT, making it easier to create a copy of important data for off-site archiving.
