New backup tool for IBM DB2

Atempo Inc., a backup and restore software maker based in Mountain View, Calif., has a new tool for backing up IBM databases. The company's Time Navigator software now offers a module for IBM DB2, which provides online backup and recovery of DB2 database information. The company said all DB2 backup and recovery activities across the enterprise can be managed through a unique and central administration console. The module supports storage area networks (SANs) and uses DB2-supported backup methods and APIs. Time Navigator for IBM DB2 is available on IBM AIX , Sun Solaris, Linux, Windows NT and Windows 2000. Time Navigator for IBM DB2 can be purchased from Atempo's worldwide network of distributors and VARs.

Acronis carves up disks

Acronis Inc., San Francisco, Calif., is now shipping Acronis PartitionExpert 2003, a disk partitioning utility with two modes of operation, one for average PC users and the other for IT professionals enabling them to create, resize and copy disk partitions. Acronis PartitionExpert 2003 offers both an automated and manual configuration mode using a Windows XP-like interface. The automated mode uses a task-based wizard that takes average users through the steps to create, resize or copy partitions. The manual mode puts all of the features and options at the user's fingertips, the company said. After installation, users can create a bootable disk or CD that can perform partitioning tasks on any computer, with or without an operating system installed.

ADIC earns preferred status

Advanced Digital Information Corp., Redmond, Wash., announced that is has been named a "Preferred Supplier" to Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Europe's biggest computer company. ADIC is one of two of Fujitsu Siemens Computers' storage suppliers, and 15 of all the company's suppliers, that has been awarded Preferred Supplier status. The Fujitsu Siemens and ADIC reseller alliance includes the Scalar family of storage networking tape libraries, Pathlight storage networking appliances and ADIC data management software.

3Par plugs in with integration deal

Mountain View, Calif.-headquartered 3Par Data Inc., has penned a pact with Advanced Systems Group Inc. (ASG), Denver, Colo., a system integrator for utility storage integration. The partnership provides ASG's customers with infrastructure options based on 3PAR's Utility Storage Systems and ASG's professional service offerings. ASG has also developed data management best practices for disk-based backup and restore operations.
