LTO tape hits 5 million cartridges shipped

The LTO Ultrium tape format has reached another milestone. Hewlett Packard Co., IBM and Seagate Removable Storage Solutions, the three technology provider companies for the LTO Program, announced that more than five million LTO Ultrium format tape data cartridges have shipped worldwide since September 2000, when products based on the format first became commercially available. Since September 2000, the Ultrium format Generation 1, with 100GB of capacity per cartridge and 20MB/sec data transfer rates, has shipped approximately 1,000 Petabytes of storage capacity. The LTO Program is currently licensing the Ultrium format Generation 2 technology, which will offer end users up to 200GB storage capacity per cartridge, with performance of up to 40MB/sec.

Solid state software hits Windows

Imperial Technology Inc., El Segundo, Calif., announced its MegaRam-SuperSpeed SSD software solution for Microsoft NT, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Data Center, and Windows XP environments. MegaRam-SuperSpeed software allows users to utilize excess memory like a virtual hard disk, which speeds application performance, the company said. The software runs on standard unmodified Microsoft NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems with Intel and/or AMD processors. MegaRam-SuperSpeed software is available immediately and pricing begins at less than $500.

MTI drops prices on storage configurations

Anaheim, Calif.-based MTI Technology Corp. is offering pre-packaged storage and backup solutions specially priced and financed for departmental deployment. The company said the offering, which is available through January 31, 2003, features in-house financing arranged through new MTI partner Canopy Capital Inc. The program includes three-year leasing options, 0% interest for 12 months, and low monthly payments. MTI is packaging three different storage configurations. A single-host direct-attached solution, a multi-host Fibre Channel storage area network (SAN) solution, and a 2-gigabit Fibre Channel SAN solution. Each configuration includes a high-performance MTI Vivant series storage subsystem, with capacities of 1 to 1.17TB, high-speed automated tape libraries based on Quantum/ATL architecture, with capacities of 1.5 to 2.2TB, Legato NetWorker backup and recovery software and MTI's management software suite. PeopleSoft users get new archiving option

Princeton Softech Inc., Princeton, N.J., has partnered with Beacon Application Services Corp., a PeopleSoft. As a Princeton Softech Active Alliance partner, Beacon and Princeton Softech will provide companies with active archiving software for managing accelerated database growth in PeopleSoft environments. Princeton Softech's Archive for Servers PeopleSoft edition, an application-specific version of Princeton Softech's Active Archive Solutions, delivers active archiving capabilities for PeopleSoft applications, including Financial Management and Human Capital Management.
