QUESTION: What do you recommend for protecting against failure of a disk array? We have replication via EMC SRDF,...

but failover is not automatic. Do you use "duplex mirroring" via software RAID 1 connecting to two disk arrays?

ANSWER: By this I assume you mean some type of host-based replication. If so, that is a suitable solution. Another, more robust if not complex, type that I have seen is active-active SRDF across a campus with clustered servers dual connected (one to each of both sides).
