QUESTION: Historically, we've Unix mirrored to multiple storage subsystems to provide continuous availability in the event of a storage subsystem failure. Is it reasonable to think this is not needed, on which platforms? In particular, what about Clariion?

ANSWER: All storage systems can have a failure (almost always due to microcode) so if you want to be absolutely safe you need to do the mirroring. It's a probability game that is tied into business risk. If someone ever says a storage system will never fail, they are either very ignorant or just plain lying.
