ADIC delivers CDN software

Advanced Digital Information Corp., Redmond, Wash., introduced a new version of its CentraVision file sharing software, which enables Internet-based Content Delivery Networks (CDN) to deliver streaming media. The new CentraVision CDN software allows a media server to deliver up to 800 simultaneous full-rate video streams (300kb/sec) from a single copy of a media file located on a central Fibre disk. The technology is also scalable, allowing multiple servers in a CDN to share the same set of centralized files to deliver thousands of full-rate video streams over the Internet. At the same time, ADIC announced a new upgrade to its original CentraVision SAN file sharing software designed to enhance that product?s support for real-time, high performance editing and delivery demanded by broadcast production environments. Both CentraVision CDN and CentraVision 1.6 are available now.

Read-Rite is fundamental for Benchmark

Read-Rite Corp., Fremont, Calif., has begun volume tape head shipments for Benchmark Storage Innovations Inc.'s, ValuSmart Tape 80, a half-high DLTtape drive, a move that builds upon an ongoing relationship between the companies. Read-Rite is an independent manufacturer of magnetic recording heads, head gimbal assemblies (HGAs) and head stack assemblies (HSAs) for disk drives and tape drives. The ValuSmart Tape 80 features DLT technology's first half-high, 5.25 inch form factor and offers 80G Bytes of compressed capacity and a 6MB/sec compressed transfer rate. The ValuSmart Tape 80 is read-compatible with the DLT1, DLT4000, and utilizes DLTtape IV media.

SMS Becomes a Brocade Fabric Integrator

SMS Data Products Group Inc., Sterling, Va., (SMS) a 25-year-old provider of customized storage and network solutions, announced that it has become a Brocade Communications Systems Inc., Fabric Integrator. SMS is now authorized to sell and support the Brocade SilkWorm family of fabric switches and software. Brocade fabric switches connect servers with storage devices through a storage area network (SAN). SMS said the relationship expands SAN component options for its customers, offering SANs tailor-made to pre-existing network configurations and organizations' brand preferences. The Brocade SilkWorm family of switches is available now from SMS for customized SAN creation or upgrades for current customers.

Fireproof storage

Dot Hill Systems Corp.'s, SANnet storage systems have successfully passed the Verizon fire resistance test performed by the Huntsville, Alabama facility of Wyle Laboratories, an engineering firm specializing in high tech testing. According to Wyle labs the fire resistance test is aimed at preventing equipment fires that may have a devastating impact on telecommunications service, employee safety, business revenue, and customer confidence. Carlsbad, Calif.-based Dot Hill said this additional certification exceeds the NEBS (Network Equipment Building System) flammability test. Wyle test engineer Don Davis said while direct flame was applied into the units at several locations the SANnet systems showed no visible burning of any exterior surface, and the smoke dissipated within the required time limit.

DataCore expands into Japan

DataCore Software, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., announced the formal launch of its Japanese office and SAN customer center in Tokyo. The new facility will serve as the sales, marketing and technical support center for Japan as well as the Asian Pacific center for SAN user training. According to DataCore, the SAN center is located in the center of Tokyo near the Imperial Palace, government offices and other international companies. DataCore said the initial objective of the Japan SAN center is to build and develop DataCore authorized channel and OEM partnerships. DataCore partners undergo SAN training and are selected on the basis of their overall storage expertise and qualifications to provide cost-effective SAN solutions to end-users.

Legato and NetApp team on backup solutions

Storage management software developer Legato Systems' NetWorker 6 supports the Network Appliance FC Tape SAN Backup solution. Network Appliance customers can now backup and restore data from the NetApp filers across a FC Fabric to centrally located and controlled tape libraries using NetWorker 6. NetWorker 6 is fully compliant with the open standard Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) and will support backup and restore of NAS servers to local or remotely attached tape libraries.
