Storage area network (SAN) management software maker SANavigator Inc., San Jose, Calif., and Reston, Va-based W. Quinn Associates Inc., have penned an integration and distribution deal that involves the latest version of SANavigator's SAN management application and WQuinn's SpaceMaxx storage resource management utility for Windows.
Steven Toole, vice president of marketing at WQuinn, said in a press release that the company is continuously seeking ways to expand its storage solutions and the integration of SANavigator's products will help WQuinn's enterprise customers centrally control and manage their growing storage resources.
The two companies expect the new deal to result in new and enhanced products for Windows users.
Under the terms of the agreement, there will be a phased integration of the products. In the initial integration, SANavigator will launch WQuinn's SpaceMaxx SRM, a disk storage analysis tool that monitors storage utilization at the partition level. SANavigator's Event Manager will be able to collect and process the capacity utilization events reported by SpaceMaxx.
In subsequent phases of integration, the products will link logical and physical information into one application.
As part of the strategic agreement between the companies, the WQuinn products will be available from SANavigator as separate modules. WQuinn will also initially refer SANavigator as a separate product and subsequently sell SANavigator direct to WQuinn's customers.
SANavigator's latest version, 2.0, is a Java-based storage management application that operates as a host for other storage management applications, utilities and tools from major storage vendors, auto-discovers all SAN resources, and presents a visual map of the SAN showing all devices and their interconnections. SANavigator 2.0 offers support for the SNIA's HBA API standard for in-band discovery, and support for remote SAN monitoring via wirelessly connected Palm OS handhelds. SANavigator 2.0 supports all Microsoft Windows platforms, Solaris, Linux and Palm OS.
SpaceMaxx SRM is a disk-reporting tool for Windows NT/2000, 95, 98, Millennium Edition and network-attached storage (NAS) devices. SpaceMaxx features 28 reports that identify large volumes of wasted disk space, and with automatic reporting thresholds that trigger cleanup actions on desktops and server volumes. It frees up wasted disk space by finding obsolete data like old files, duplicated files, and other types of data that eat up disk space.Let us know what you think about the story, e-mail Kevin Komiega, assistant news editor
