Imation Corp. has tackled the Mammoth. The Oakdale, Minn., tape-maker has made available its new Imation Mammoth 8mm tape cartridge for use with the Exabyte Mammoth Tape drive. The new Mammoth cartridge supports the Exabyte Mammoth Tape Drive's 20G Byte native capacity and a native data transfer rate of up to 3 G-Bit/sec.
Imation is looking to provide storage media for more than 1.5 million installed Exabyte Mammoth Tape drives, libraries and compatible drives.
Imation said the Mammoth Tape Cartridges are available wherever computer supplies are sold, at a price of $75, as well as a 10-cartridge magazine with a cleaning kit for $830. The cleaning kit is available separately for $21.
