Kevin Komiega

A Santa Clara, Claif.-based subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., Hitachi Data Systems, has joined privately held Troika Networks, Inc., Westlake Village, Calif., in a reseller agreement putting Troika's Zentai Controller with storage network solutions based on Hitachi Freedom Data Network products and services in the same storage solution.

Hitachi Data Systems will qualify the Zentai Controller for use in Storage Area Networks (SANs) with the recently announced Hitachi Freedom Storage Lightning 9900 system, as well as with the Freedom Storage 7700E and 5800 systems.

The Zentai Controller is an interface, linking servers-to-servers and servers-to-storage through a Fibre Channel-based SAN. The controller offers new standards-based clusteringand was designed for optimizing application performance with a graphical interface for managing network resources. The technology utilized by the Zentai Controller supports simultaneous use of Virtual Interface (VI) Architecture, Internet Protocol (IP), and SCSI (FCP) protocols.

Some new features of the Zentai include dynamic multipathing for automated load balancing and path fail-over between multiple Zentai controller ports in a server to a storage port in a storage subsystem, and reduced processor overhead.
