is offering the Quantum DLT 8000 drive as the Compaq 40/80G Byte DLTtape drive for the mid-range enterprise computing market.

The 40/80 GB DLTtape drive provides a native capacity of 40G Bytes and a 6M Byte/sec data transfer rate. The drives are backward read-and-write compatible with 20/40G Byte DLT and 35/70G Byte DLT formats and use the same DLT IV cartridge.

Milpitas, Calif.-based Quantum boasts an install base of more than 1.4 million DLTtape drives and 50 million DLTtape media cartridges shipped to date.
