Corp., (StorageTek) under which Overland's patented Variable Rate Randomizer (VR2) technology will be licensed by StorageTek.
Overland's VR2 technology will be integrated broadly into future offerings of Louisville, Colo.-headquartered, StorageTek's 9840 tape drive technology with the ultimate goal of increasing the capacity throughput of linear tape formats in a more cost effective offering, the company said.
VR2 technology utilizes Partial Maximum Likelihood (PRML) channel encoding technology on linear tape drive platforms. PRML can increase native capacity and native data transfer rate performance of existing linear tape technologies by achieving a rate efficiency of greater than 99%.
