In our latest roundup podcast of recent storage events, SearchStorage.com Senior News Director Dave Raffo speaks with Executive Editor Ellen O’Brien about Nexsan’s recent launch of its first multiprotocol storage platform, the Nexsan NST Series Unified Storage System. SearchStorage.com reported on this unified storage architecture, which features flash cache that uses single-level cell (SLC) solid-state drives (SSDs) as well as DRAM to boost performance.
Raffo also discusses his latest Storage Soup blog post on the slowdown of storage systems revenue growth during the last quarter of 2011. IDC’s worldwide quarterly disk storage systems tracker showed that the rate of growth in the categories of open SAN, NAS and iSCSI has declined.

Arkeia unveiled vmOneStep, its virtual appliance for VMware, and Acronis launched vmProtect 7, an upgrade to its agentless backup tool, which can be run as a virtual appliance or directly on a Windows server.
