NexGen picks up $10M in funding
Virtual machine storage system startup NexGen Storage closed a $10 million funding round, led by Next World Capital with participation from previous investors Grotech Ventures and Access Venture Partners. NexGen recently launched its flagship product, the NexGen n5 Storage System.
Penguin selects Dot Hill storage for HPC storage solutions
High-performance computing company (HPC) Penguin Computing has selected Dot Hill Systems Corp.’s AssuredSAN 3000 Series for its HPC storage solutions. Penguin said it will sell the highest performing 3003 models, primarily with SAS host interfaces, and will offer solid-state drives (SSDs) as an option.
F5 teams with NetApp, VMware for live application migration
F5 Networks Inc. said it has improved its live virtual machine (VM) migration capabilities for customers using NetApp unified storage and VMware virtualization solutions. F5 collaborated with NetApp and VMware to performance test VM migration across data centers using VMware vSphere 5 and vMotion, NetApp FlexCache and F5’s BIG-IP.
Index Engines lowers pricing for Octane for Exchange
Index Engines said it will sell its Octane for Exchange/Notes email archive for $50,000 through the end of 2011. The Octane compliance archive includes connection to one email server and the ability to unlock 100 user mailbox accounts. Additional mailbox accounts can be licensed. The promotional price includes installation, training and the first year of support.
NovaStor upgrades NovaBackup SMB line
Data protection vendor NovaStor rolled out Version 12.5 of its NovaBackup SMB product line for workstations, servers and virtual machines. The new version enables automatic backup of critical data to password-protected NAS devices for compliance with corporate security policies.
Avere FXT aces benchmark test
Avere Systems Inc.’s FXT Series achieved a combination of 1,564,404 OPS/sec throughput and.99 milliseconds response time in the SPECsfs2008 NFS benchmark test. The company’s NAS optimization system scored those numbers using a 44-node cluster of Avere FXT 3500 appliances using the Standard Performance Evaluation Corp. SPECsfs2008_nfs.v3 benchmark. During the test configuration, 752 disks and 104 rack units were used.
Violin Memory adds to executive team
Flash storage startup Violin Memory Inc. has named Scott Metzger vice president of corporate development. Metzger previously served as vice president of products, engineering and operations at Apigee Corp. Metzger will lead Violin’s expansion into data-intensive markets such as analytics, search and real-time decision management.
Survey: Security worries hinder cloud storage adoption
A survey conducted by cloud storage gateway startup Nasuni found that 81% of IT professionals said they're concerned about the security of data stored in the cloud. Of the 451respondents, 48% said they are concerned about the level of control they would have over data stored in the cloud and 43% plan to store data in the cloud over the next 12 months.
