Cluster (vMSC), extending Vplex high-availability capabilities.
Vplex lets customers pool storage systems in multiple storage systems across distances, allowing users to access data simultaneously from different geographic locations. The vMSC support will let organizations manage and migrate data between VMware vSphere clusters in multiple sites.
Infortrend adds SSDs to storage systems
Infortrend said its Enterprise Scalable Virtualized Architecture (ESVA) enterprise storage, EonStor DS SMB storage and EonNAS unified storage families are available with STEC MACH16 solid-state drives (SSDs). The Infortrend systems use single-level cell (SLC) 100 GB and 200 GB drives.
Quantum rolls out VMware backup appliance
Quantum Corp. launched the vmPRO 4601 SMB VMware backup system with capacity-on-demand pricing. Quantum vmPRO 4601 customers can start with 4 TB and scale to 12 TB by adding 4 TB licenses. The vmPRO 4601 is based on technology Quantum acquired from startup Pancetera in June.
Neverfail targets VMware Site Recovery Manager support
Neverfail will launch its Neverfail SRMXtender disaster recovery software that extends VMware’s vCenter Site Recovery Manager by the end of November. SRMXtender provides a continuous availability solution for critical applications and is integrated with Neverfail’s Virtual Availability Director, allowing management from within VMware’s vCenter console.
NextIO launches I/O virtualization box
NextIO Inc. is shipping vNET I/O Maestro, a PCIe-based I/O virtualization appliance. vNET I/O Maestro lets an I/O device appear as multiple virtual adapters so servers in a rack can share a PCIe device. The appliance supports between 15 and 30 x86 servers.
Tandberg Data, Altaro combine for VM protection
Tandberg Data said its RDX QuikStor removable disk system has been certified with Altaro’s Hyper-V Backup software to allow organizations virtual machine (VM) protection. Tandberg Data’s RDX customers can get a free version of Altaro Hyper-V Backup that allows them to back up two VMs to an RDX QuikStor device. Customers can buy standard or unlimited editions of Hyper-V Backup if they need to protect more than two RDX QuikStor systems.
Synology launches desktop NAS
Synology America Corp. launched the DiskStation DS712+ NAS appliance. The DS712+ is a two-bay server that can scale to 21 TB with the DX510 expansion module.
HP’s 3PAR doubles service provider customers
Hewlett-Packard (HP) Co. said it has doubled the number of service provider customers for its 3PAR storage over the first three quarters of this year since acquiring 3PAR. HP also said its 3PAR P10000 V800 Storage System set a Storage Performance Council’s SPC-1 benchmark record for online transaction processing.
Nexsan adds 10,000th customer
Nexsan Corp. said Dallas-based ATS Cloud is its 10,000th customer since it began selling storage systems in 1999. ATS Cloud selected the Assureon secure online archive and E60 high-density system to serve as the storage platform behind its cloud services offering, including backup, archiving and disaster recovery.
Emulex affected by Thailand floods
HBA vendor Emulex Corp. said one if its subcontracted manufacturing facilities in Thailand suspended operations because of flooding damage. Emulex said availability of board-level products may be constrained and it might face higher costs to expedite materials.
