DataCore Software upgraded its SANsymphony-V storage virtualization software, adding Microsoft Failover Cluster support as well as previously announced auto tiering.
SANsymphony-V 8.1 also supports open APIs, Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) and PowerShell for easier integration with management tools. The product also virtualizes storage across pools of heterogeneous hardware systems, adding management features such as thin provisioning, RAID striping, asynchronous replication, snapshots and continuous data protection (CDP).

Gluster released the GlusterFS 3.3 beta 2 with compatibility for Apache Hadoop. The latest version of GlusterFS uses the standard file system APIs available in Hadoop to provide a storage option for Hadoop deployments. The new functionality opens up data within Hadoop deployments to any file- or object-based application.
Qnap expands Turbo NAS line
Qnap Systems Inc. added eight-drive and 10-drive models to its desktop Turbo NAS servers. The TS-879 Pro and TS-1079 Pro servers use Intel Core i3 CPUs to deliver data throughput over 1,000 MBps via 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) connectivity. The new systems also support iSCSI, and are VMware and Citrix XenServer Ready and Windows Hyper-V compliant.
Zetta cloud protects construction firm
Zetta Inc. said Chicago-based Skender Construction is backing up nearly 4 TB of data in the cloud with Zetta Data Protect. Skender installed the ZettaMirror agent on two local backup servers and the file server to create and maintain offsite copies of its locally backed up data.
Druva closes $12 million funding round
Laptop backup specialist Druva Software said it received $12 million in a Series B round of funding. The round was led by Nexus Venture Partners with previous investor Sequoia Capital contributing. Druva said it will use the funding to expand sales and marketing of its enterprise laptop backup software in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
Spectra Logic reports sales boom
Tape vendor Spectra Logic Corp. said its revenue grew 30% for its fiscal year that ended June 30, and that it completed its fifth straight year of profitability. The vendor said its tape media revenue increased 69% and unit sales increased 27% year over year.
