storage sub-systems based in Newark, CA. Bell Microproducts plans to integrate Hammer Storage into its recently acquired Rorke Data division. Rorke Data Fibre Channel and Storage Area Network solutions to markets such as digital audio/video, publishing, and medical imaging. Bell Microproducts acquired Rorke Data in February. The transaction with Hammer is expected to close this month.
"The acquisition will expand Rorke's geographic presence and leverage its technology into new markets," said Don Bell, Bell Microproducts' president and chief executive officer.
"The acquisition of Hammer Storage provides several key elements to help Rorke grow as a major provider of SAN systems," said Rorke Data President Herb Rorke. According to Rorke, Hammer's geographic diversity, customer base, and line of storage products make it an appealing acquisition.
Hammer Storage President, Tom Makmann said that the combination of these companies and their products will further support the move toward fully integrated SANs.
Hammer's core competencies also include custom software applications. The Hammer MediaPlayer software a cross platform capture and playback application and was originally designed for animation companies to improve their workflow during the production cycle. In addition, Hammer Storage Solutions has an extensive film background and knowledge of the workflow for the film production and post-production process. This includes a strong working knowledge of the industry standard Avid Media Composers 1000-9000, Avid NT systems, Avid Symphony uncompressed system and Avid Illusion, Media 100 as well as SGI, NT and Macintosh hardware including all other non-linear editing systems.
