Hitachi Data Systems rolled out the Hitachi Clinical Repository (HCR), a medical storage archive system for healthcare facilities based on a combination of HDS storage systems and software.
HCR consists of Hitachi Content Platform (HCP), Hitachi NAS powered by BlueArc and Hitachi Data Discovery Suite software. HCR stores multiple data types and images, and creates a metadata repository based on any information system. It gives healthcare providers a consolidated view of relevant patient information.
Aberdeen launches NAS with 3 TB drives
Aberdeen LLC has launched the AberNAS LX Series storage appliance. The high end of the NAS series is an 8U rackmount appliance that stores 198 TB with 3 TB drives. The LX appliances included three external SAS ports for JBOD expansion and two 6 Gbps SAS HBA ports for direct-attached storage. The LX also supports iSCSI, and uses the quad-core Intel Xeon processor 5600 "Westmere" chips. Pricing starts at $2,795 for the 2U entry-level appliance, $10,995 for the 5U midrange appliance and $23,995 for the 8U enterprise device.
Balesio adds data reduction appliance
Balesio AG rolled out its FMA-4800 Series content-aware data reduction appliance for file data. The FMA-4800 uses algorithms developed specifically for Microsoft Office files and PowerPoint presentations and images. The vendor claims its appliance can reduce the size of files by up to 50 times while preserving the original format so no rehydration or decompression is necessary.
Juniper Networks introduces FCoE platform
Juniper Networks Inc. unveiled its QFabric platform for unified networks, and said the first product from the family is the Juniper Networks QFX3500 that serves as a 10-GigE switch with Fibre Channel and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) gateway functionality. The QFX3500 will be available in the second half of the year.
OS33 extends storage cloud capabilities for service providers
OS33 Inc. rolled out the OS33 Grid, a storage cloud infrastructure for managed service providers. The OS33 Grid provides MSPs with national geographic coverage disaster recovery. The OS33 platform helps MSPs add clients and provision storage for hosted business applications.
Fibre Channel HBA ports spike
Fibre Channel HBA shipments rose to more than 900,000 ports in the fourth quarter of 2010, marking a 15% rise from the previous quarter according to the Dell'Oro Group's SAN Quarterly Report. The report said FCoE port shipments were lower than expected in the quarter.
Huawei Symantec supports Force10 switching
Huawei Symantec Technologies Co. Ltd. and Force10 Networks Inc. have formed a partnership combining Huawei Symantec's storage systems and Force10's S-Series S60 Ethernet switches. The S60 switches include 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports and up to four optional 10 GbE uplinks.
Yanai joins Axxana board
Former EMC and IBM executive Moshe Yanai has joined the board of Israeli-based disaster recovery appliance vendor Axxana. Yanai led the development team of EMC's Symmetrix storage system in the 1980s and 1990s. He also founded XIV, which IBM acquired in 2008. He left IBM last year. He will help plan the strategic and technological direction of Axxana.
