Dot Hill launches new 6 Gbps SAS storage arrays
OEM storage supplier Dot Hill Systems Corp. is shipping 6 Gbps SAS 3000 Series storage arrays: the 3520 2U 24-drive and the 3530 2U 12-drive standard array. Each controller can hold up to eight host-attach connections per array, and supports solid-state drive, SAS and SATA drives, with expansion of up to seven JBOD systems and 144 2.5-inch drives. Other features include snapshot and volume copy, drive spin down capability, bronze-rated power supplies, optional data protection software, as well as RAIDar 2.0 to provide storage setup and monitoring.
Seagate releases 3 TB external desktop drive
Seagate Technology LLC has released the GoFlex Desk external drive, the first 3 TB external desktop drive. GoFlex Desk is compatible with Windows and Mac, and includes an NTFS driver for Mac, enabling it to store and access files from both Windows and Mac OS X computers without reformatting.
Infortrend solution offers 6 Gbps SAS drive connectivity for SSDs
Infortrend Technology expanded its midrange Enterprise Scalable Virtualized Architecture (ESVA) Fibre Channel Series with an F60 8 Gbps Fibre Channel to 6 Gbps SAS model that also supports solid-state drives (SSDs).
QNAP upgrades NAS management software
QNAP Systems Inc. released Version 3 of its NAS management software. New features include Multimedia Station 2, a music, picture, and video management and player application that allows Web-based management, playback and sharing of music, videos and pictures. The software also supports the QMobile application for iPad and iPhone users, a Firmware Live Update feature and a built-in SFTP server.
Emulex provides Fibre Channel over Ethernet Connectivity for Cisco
Emulex Corp. said its single-chip OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) have been selected for 10 Gbps Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity for the Cisco Unified Computing B-Series Blade Server platform and the Cisco Unified Computing C-Series Rack Mount Server platform, as well as qualified for use with the Cisco Nexus family of Unified Fabric Switches. OneConnect UCNAs deliver hardware offload protocol support for TCP/IP and FCoE. Emulex LightPulse Fibre Channel host bus adapters are also available for use with the Cisco Unified Computing C-Series Rack Servers.
QLogic switches stack up at World Cup
QLogic Corp. said its 5802V Series Fibre Channel stackable switches are providing the backbone of the International Broadcast Center's (IBC) storage-area network (SAN) at the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa.
DataCore SANsymphony prevents double-faults at Wimbledon
Storage virtualization provider DataCore Software Corp. said the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, host of the Wimbledon tennis championships, is using DataCore SANsymphony software for disaster recovery. Two SANsymphony nodes are housed in separate Wimbledon data centers in a mirrored environment for failover, and a third is running at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton for full disaster recovery purposes.
ATTO HBAs debut at Cannes Film Festival
ATTO Technology Inc. said its Celerity FC-41ES 4 Gbps Fibre Channel HBA was used to connect four Avid Technology Inc. workflows, as part of the editing systems provided by Cap Ciné and French distributor Additional Design at the Cannes International Film Festival. The Celerity FC-41ES offers up to 800 Mbps of throughput, Advanced Data Streaming (ADS) technology, as well as driver support for Windows, Linux, Mac and VMware.
NetApp exec joins ProStor board of directors
RDX removable disk technology vendor ProStor Systems Inc. appointed NetApp's Storage Solutions Group VP Jay Kidd to its board of directors.
