Market leaders EMC Corp. (up 13.7%), IBM (up 11.0%), Hewlett-Packard Co. (up 8.7%), NetApp Inc. (up 8.1%), and CA (up 7.2%) matched or exceeded the industry growth rate, while CommVault Systems inc. increased revenue 25%, according to IDC's numbers. Symantec Corp., second to EMC in overall revenue, had its year-over-year revenue growth decline by 0.5%. The largest market segment was data protection and recovery, which increased 10.6% with double-digit growth from EMC, IBM, HP and CommVault. EMC, which acquired data deduplication backup vendor Data Domain in June 2009, grew its backup revenue by 46.6%.
Riverbed updates RiOS WAN optimization software
Riverbed Technology upgraded Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS) software for its WAN optimization devices, increasing RiOS 6.1 performance for EMC Corp. SRDF replication software, Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) traffic over Brocade 7500 and Cisco MDS gateways, Microsoft Exchange 2010 and SharePoint, and Lotus Notes 8.5.
Spectra Logic ships LTO-5 T-Series tape libraries
Spectra Logic Corp. began shipping LTO-5 drives and media cartridges in its T-Series tape libraries. Spectra Logic's tape libraries with LTO-5 drives and media feature 1.5 TB native capacity per tape, 140 Mbps native throughput to each drive, media partitioning, Digital Speed Matching (DSM) that allows the streaming of data transfer to tape from slower hosts, Spectra Logic's Media Lifecycle Management (MLM) with media and data integrity verification, and encryption with key management.
American Megatrends releases RAID software
American Megatrends Inc. launched RAID-RT software with its StorTrends iTX Network Storage Software. RAID-RT is integrated with the ManageTrends web-based GUI and offloads processing tasks to hardware accelerators.
Emulex demonstrates encryption device with Microsoft SQL
Emulex Corp. demonstrated its OneSecure adapters along with EMC Corp. PowerPath Encryption at Microsoft Tech-Ed in New Orleans. The demonstration involved OneSecure 8 Gbps Fibre Channel HBAs with hardware-based encryption and EMC PowerPath Encryption with RSA running SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2.
Atto releases 6 Gbps SAS/SATA RAID adapters
Atto Technology Inc. announced the availability of its ExpressSAS 6 Gbps SAS/SATA RAID adapters. The ExpressSAS R60F (16-port internal), R680 (8-port external), R608 (8-port internal) and R644 (4-port external/4-port internal) adapters feature Atto's RAID stack and incorporate Marvell Technology Group's 88RC9580 RAID-on-Chip (ROC) processor technology. The adapters support high-performance SAS drives, high-capacity SATA drives and low-latency SSDs, as well as major operating systems.
