HP resells DataDirect Networks' HPC storage system; other data storage news

Hewlett-Packard adds DataDirect Networks' HPC scale-out SAN to its Unified Cluster Portfolio; SGI adds three storage systems from OEM partner LSI; 3PAR releases e-discovery software.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) Co. began reselling the DataDirect Networks (DDN) Inc.'s S2A9900 Lustre File Storage System for high-performance computing (HPC) customers Thursday as part of the HP Unified Cluster Portfolio.

The S2A9900 Lustre File Storage System is a parallel file storage system designed to provide scalable clustered storage performance. DataDirect Networks claims the system supports up to 240 GBps of bandwidth and can scale to beyond 10 PB of capacity.

SGI expands SAN platform

SGI launched three systems based on its OEM deal with LSI Corp.'s Engenio storage. The SGI InfiniteStorage 220-SP is a 2U system with single or dual controllers; 4 Gbps Fibre Channel, iSCSI or 3 Gbps SAS ports; and up to 96 TB of capacity. The InfiniteStorage 4100-SP is a 3U dual-controller 8 Gbps Fibre Channel system with up to 224 TB of capacity. The InfiniteStorage 4600-SP is a 4U dual-controller Fibre Channel and iSCSI system that supports up to 996 TB and includes optional solid-state drives (SSDs).

3PAR releases Virtual Lock for data governance and e-discovery 

3PAR released its Virtual Lock software, which the vendor said can help customers meet data governance and e-discovery needs. Available for all 3PAR InServ arrays, Virtual Lock snapshots let customers retain frozen point-in-time copies of data. The software also allows administrators to apply a configurable retention period to virtual volumes and volume copies.

Dell selects Emulex iSCSI and FCoE adapters

Emulex Corp.'s OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) for 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) iSCSI and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) converged connectivity are available with Dell PowerEdge rack and blade servers. OneConnect UCNAs feature hardware protocol offload support for TCP/IP, iSCSI and FCoE, and consolidate network and storage infrastructures.

SandForce ships SSDs with firmware

SandForce Inc. is shipping production firmware with its SF-1000 SSD processor product line, which has been field tested by several SSD manufacturers. SandForce SSD processors use integrated DuraClass Technology to enable use of MLC flash memory in enterprise-class storage systems.

QLogic bolsters HPC fabric management software

QLogic Corp. released InfiniBand Fabric Suite 6, adding application-specific class of service, adaptive routing for monitoring application messaging patterns, dispersive routing to load-balance packet traffic, and support for torus and mesh network topologies.

IBM uses Mellanox InfiniBand and Ethernet adapters

Mellanox Technologies Ltd.'s ConnectX-2 InfiniBand and Ethernet adapters, and IS5000 40 Gbps InfiniBand switches are available through IBM's iDataPlex and Intelligent Cluster product lines.

ExaGrid Systems' data deduplication supports HP Data Protector

ExaGrid Systems Inc. added support for Hewlett-Packard (HP) Co.'s Data Protector backup software to its data deduplication disk backup appliances.

Drobo adds support for Time Machine 

Data Robotics Inc. beefed-up support for Apple's Time Machine backup software with the Drobo FS file-sharing SMB storage system. Drobo FS customers can control how much capacity to allow Time Machine backups, and multiple Mac users on a network can simultaneously back up to the same Drobo FS.
