3PAR strengthens software for InServe Storage

This week's storage news briefs:

3PAR Inc. added software added data protection features to its InServ Storage Server platform. The new features are Synchronous Long Distance Remote Copy, Persistent Cache and RAID MP (Multi-Parity).

Synchronous Long Distance Remote Copy adds synchronous replication support to multiple sites for disaster recovery. Persistent Cache works on InServ systems of four or more nodes and preserves write-caching if a controller node fails by re-mirroring cache to other nodes in the cluster. RAID MP is RAID 6 technology that protects against data loss due to two simultaneous disk failures.

LSI collaborates with Supermicro for 6Gbp/s SAS

LSI Corp. and Supermicro Computer Inc. are combining on an end-to-end 6 Gbps SAS direct attached storage system designed for channel partners. Integrators can build systems with LSI's 6-gig SAS RAID-on-chip (ROC) and SAS expanders with either LSI MegaRaid or Supermicro Universal I/O controller cards and SuperMicro ServerBuilding Block chasses. The systems support 24 2.5-inch or 16 3.5-inch Seagate Savvio 6-gig SAS hard drives.

QNAP adds 4-drive 8 TB NAS system

QNAP Systems, Inc., expanded its Turbo NAS lineup with the addition of the TS-410U rack-mounted NAS server targeted specifically at the SMB and workgroup market segments. Healthcare firms virtualizes with DataCore

Homecare Homebase (HCHB) said it is using DataCore Software's SANmelody software to create SANs at two co-location sites for high availability. HCHB manages 8 TB at each site in Louisville, Ky., and Dallas on SANs consisting of Supermicro SAN nodes connected to a Xiotech Emprise 5000 storage system supporting servers running VMware vSphere.

SafeData launches backup appliance

SafeData LLC added a backup and recovery appliance for IBM System i and Windows environments. SafeData Vault lets customers create local vaults and replicate data to an off-site data center.
