3PAR strengthens software for InServe Storage

3PAR adds data protection software for its SANs; LSI and Supermicro hook up for 6-gig SAS; healthcare company turns to DataCore for high availability of virtual servers.

This week's storage news briefs:

3PAR Inc. added software added data protection features to its InServ Storage Server platform. The new features are Synchronous Long Distance Remote Copy, persistent cache and RAID MP (Multi-Parity).

Synchronous Long Distance Remote Copy adds synchronous replication support to multiple sites for disaster recovery. Persistent Cache works on InServ systems of four or more nodes and preserves write-caching if a controller node fails by re-mirroring cache to other nodes in the cluster. RAID MP is RAID 6 technology that protects against data loss due to two simultaneous disk failures.

LSI collaborates with Supermicro for 6Gbp/s SAS

LSI Corp. and Supermicro Computer Inc. are combining on an end-to-end 6 Gbps SAS direct attached storage system designed for channel partners. Integrators can build systems with LSI's 6-gig SAS RAID-on-chip (ROC) and SAS expanders with either LSI MegaRaid or Supermicro Universal I/O controller cards and SuperMicro ServerBuilding Block chasses. The systems support 24 2.5-inch or 16 3.5-inch Seagate Savvio 6-gig SAS hard drives.

QNAP adds 4-drive 8 TB NAS system

QNAP Systems, Inc., expanded its Turbo NAS lineup with the addition of the TS-410U rack-mounted NAS server targeted specifically at the SMB and workgroup market segments. The TS-410U features four hot-swappable SATA hard drives with up to 8 TB of total capacity in a 1U rack-mounted chassis. The TS-410U supports 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hard drives, iSCSI and thin provisioning.

Healthcare firms virtualizes with DataCore

Homecare Homebase (HCHB) said it is using DataCore Software's SANmelody software to create SANs at two co-location sites for high availability. HCHB manages 8 TB at each site in Louisville, Ky., and Dallas on SANs consisting of Supermicro SAN nodes connected to a Xiotech Emprise 5000 storage system supporting servers running VMware vSphere.
