FalconStor Software Inc. launched HyperTrac Backup Accelerator for VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB). HyperTrac technology for VMware integrates with the FalconStor Network Storage Server (NSS) data protection and disaster recovery (DR) platform.
HyperTrac Backup Accelerator for VCB optimizes VCB backups to minimize impact on virtual machines and connected storage. It installs on any server with VMware Consolidated Backup and creates standby virtual machines on a separate ESX host dedicated to backups, then uses FalconStor's thin snapshots to present VMware snapshots as the source data for VCB backups.
Virtual Instruments prepares I/O optimization software
Virtual Instruments introduced VirtualWisdom, which is designed to help IT administrators optimize performance and availability of virtual machines. VirtualWisdom provides storage-area network (SAN) I/O intelligence to VMware deployments, helping admins load balance based on I/O performance. Virtual Instruments expects VirtualWisdom to be available by June.

Ocarina Networks secures $20 million in Series B financing
Ocarina Networks closed a $20 million Series B round of financing led by JAFCO Ventures with contributions from Series A investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and Highland Capital Partners LLC. Joe Horowitz, a managing general partner at JAFCO Ventures, will join the Ocarina board of directors.
iQstor Networks launches Velocity Partner Program
iQstor Networks Inc. introduced the Velocity Partner Program for its storage systems, including the iQ2850 iSCSI and iQ2880 Fibre Channel arrays. The partner program offers resellers and solution providers financial incentives, sales programs, technical training and pre-sales support among other things.
LifeScript health site picks 3PAR
LifeScript.com, a women's online health portal, has deployed 3PAR Utility Storage. LifeScript claims its Web 2.0 portal and email processing engine now supports 3 billion transactions per month for a third less cost than its previous storage environment. It also reduced average time to provision new servers from several hours to minutes.
Spectra Logic Federal opens technology center in Washington, D.C.
Spectra Logic Federal is opening its first technology center in Washington, D.C. The new facility offers a training center for customers, prospects and partners, as well as a technology laboratory for customer demonstrations and meeting space for Spectra Logic Federal sales and engineering staff. The tape library vendor also said it ran up year-over-year revenue increases despite the current economic conditions.
Seanodes joins the VMware Technology Alliance Partner program
Seanodes Inc. has joined the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program, which helps technology vendors integrate Seanodes' iSCSI software with VMware's server virtualization. TAP provides technical marketing services, tools and customer support.
