Spectra Logic Corp. launched MLM (Media Lifecycle Management) Reader, a portable device that lets customers check the health of tape cartridges without loading them into a library. MLM Reader plugs into any computer through a USB connection, and can read recorded tape health statistics.
MLM Reader is an extension of Spectra Logic's MLM technology, which is part of its BlueScale management interface. MLM tracks more than 30 non-volatile statistics about data tapes, such as remaining capacity, encryption information, number of reads and writes, date of last access, born-on date and cleaning log. Pricing for MLM Reader starts at $2,500.
