EMC adds VMware-tested features to Microsoft apps
EMC has added features to improve backup and recovery of Microsoft Exchange and SQL Server when those applications are used with VMware. The new capabilities include expanded support for EMC's Clariion AX4; backup and recovery features, including deduplication enabled by EMC Avamar; data protection enabled by EMC RecoverPoint; and increased application availability enabled by VMware VMotion.

Voltaire, LSI certify Infiniband-based storage systems
Voltaire Ltd. is cross-certifying LSI Corp.'s Infiniband-based storage systems with Voltaire's switches and software. As part of the certification, companies in the financial services, media and entertainment and telecommunications industries evaluate interoperability and performance available through LSI and Voltaire offerings.

Bakbone Software has brought out an updated version of its NetVault: Backup Application Plugin Module for Oracle. The module simplifies the backup and recovery features of Oracle 11g with automated GUIs and the integration of backup devices, which allows non-Oracle administrators to manage Oracle data protection without having to learn Oracle internals or create scripts.

HP makes Emulex I/O controller available
HP will use Emulex Corp.'s PCI Express I/O controller to support its new line of HBAs for its Integrity servers. HP's AD221A, AD222A and AD393A HBAs have PCI Express Fibre Channel and Ethernet ports to expand the connectivity options. The new Emulex-based connectivity controllers are available in single- and dual-port configurations over a choice of fiber or copper and are supported by HP-UX l1i v3 and OpenVMS operating environments.

Google Mini crawls files in shared drives, improves search results
The Google Mini search device now comes with three features to better locate data. The Mini's file system access control tool can crawl files stored in shared drives and serve them as search results to administrators. The device can also enhance the relevance of search results by specifying which documents are more authoritative than others, and indicate a bias for recently created documents.
