EMC acquires nLayers
EMC Corp. announced the acquisition of privately held nLayers Ltd. -- a provider of application discovery and mapping software. EMC already had an OEM deal with the company and was selling nLayers' product under the banner Smarts Application Discovery Manager. The acquisition expands EMC's resource management portfolio, enhancing EMC Smarts' ability to conduct automated root-cause and impact analysis across all technology domains, including networks, applications and storage. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Hammer Storage ships IP SAN for SMBs
Hammer Storage, a division of Bell Microproducts Inc., announced that its new line of network storage, the Hammer Z-Series, is now shipping. Aimed for small and mid-sized businesses, Bell Microproducts expanded the Hammer line to fill a disparity in the market by adding Zetera Corp.'s Z-SAN Storage-over-IP technology to create the Hammer Z-Series.

MTI acquires Collective for services
MTI Technology Corp., announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of Collective Technologies, a provider of enterprise-class IT infrastructure services and solutions, with over 90 consultants. The acquisition is intended to boost MTI's vision of helping companies maximize the value of their technology investments by delivering end-to-end solutions for information and infrastructure management.
