Startups cobble together CAS BridgeHead Software announced a new archiving platform that combines its HT FileStore software with Plasmon's optical storage, and, it claims, enables resellers and integrators of data storage and archive solutions to build content-addressed storage (CAS) archives on the cheap.
Nexsan and Disc GmbH announced a similar combined storage product for fixed content that features Nexsan's Assureon storage system and Disc's optical libraries with blue laser recording.
Promise introduces 16-port SATA RAID Promise Technology Inc. introduced 16-port SuperTrak EX16350 and EX16300 RAID controllers. The new controllers provide RAID-6 protection with hardware acceleration and 3 Gbps throughput as laid out in SATA II specifications.
The controllers also include PCI-E (EX16350) and PCI-X (EX16300) host bus interfaces; Linux drivers; support for RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and JBOD; Intel IOP333/IOP331 I/O processor; multiple logical drive and multiple LUN support, enabling users to combine different RAID levels on one set of disks; multiple application and OS support on the same storage system; automatic/manual rebuild of hot spare drive; online array expansion and RAID level migration; and an optional battery backup module to protect cached data.
The SuperTrak EX16350 will be available in March with a suggested list price of $849. The SuperTrak EX16300 will begin shipping in April.
Xyratex qualifies Seagate Xyratex Ltd. announced it is the first storage subsystem manufacturer to qualify and integrate Seagate's 146 GB Cheetah 15K.4, 4 Gbps Fibre Channel disc drives. Seagate's Cheetah 15K.4 disc drives have been integrated into Xyratex's RS-1600-F4-SBD 4 Gbit storage system.

Reldata signs Spanish distributor IP storage gateway maker Reldata Inc. announced it has entered into a distribution agreement with Sisnor, a Spanish value-added distributor. Sisnor will launch Reldata IP storage gateway products in Spain, Portugal and Andorra.
