Cablecom deploys Brocade 4 Gbps switches
Brocade announced that Cablecom, the largest service provider for cable television, high-speed Internet access and digital telephone service in Switzerland, has selected the latest Brocade 4 Gbps Fibre Channel storage networking switch to expand its SAN. The Zurich-based company will use Brocade SilkWorm 4100 switches and Brocade SilkWorm multiprotocol routers to support an additional 30 terabytes of storage capacity for customer and billing information.
Before the installation, Cablecom was concerned that the failure of a link between its Otelfingen and Winterthur sites would disrupt one of its two existing 2 Gbps SANs. To address this concern the systems integrator, wedoit solutions AG, installed a new dual-fabric SAN with six SilkWorm 4100 4 Gbps switches at the SAN core and two SilkWorm multiprotocol routers connecting the core to the existing Brocade SANs. The link between Otelfingen and Winterthur will now serve as an isolated SAN used for data backup operations linking to the other SANs via the multiprotocol routers.
