Adaptec also announced two SAS subsystems, the Adaptec SANbloc 5000f RAID subsystem and SANbloc S50 JBOD. The 500f box, a 2U, 12-drive system, is a FibreChannel-to-SAS array that will support SAS in both direct-attached and networked storage environments, and can hold both SAS and SATA drives. The JBOD is meant to expand the back-end capacity of the RAID system, allowing for up to eight additional systems (total of 108 hard drives) for a capacity up to 54 terabytes (TB) (SATA) or 32.4 TB (SAS). The 5000f will be available before the end of the year at a manufactuer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $5,995 without drives. The Adaptec S50 will be available before the end of November at an MSRP of $2,995 without drives.

Assurency SecureData will provide data encryption and strong data compartmentalization within EMC's Centera environments.Plasmon supplies IBM Plasmon Inc announced that IBM is using Plasmon UDO (Ultra Density Optical) drive, media and automation products in its new line of UDO libraries. The Plasmon UDO technology is being used in IBM System Storage 3996 optical libraries for IBM eServer iSeries systems. The new 3996 libraries with Plasmon drive, media and automation are available in three configurations -- Model 032, 080 and 174, and is a follow-up offering to IBM's 3995 library family.

Executive Software upgrades Diskeeper Executive Software International Inc. announced a new version of its Diskeeper defragmentation software, version 8.0, which adds support for SAN and NAS. Diskeeper 8.0 server enterprise edition can handle volumes up to 4 terabytes and defragment up to 16 disk volumes simultaneously.
