Adaptec also announced two SAS subsystems, the Adaptec SANbloc 5000f RAID subsystem and SANbloc S50 JBOD. The 500f box, a 2U, 12-drive system, is a FibreChannel-to-SAS array that will support SAS in both direct-attached and networked storage environments, and can hold both SAS and SATA drives. The JBOD is meant to expand the back-end capacity of the RAID system, allowing for up to eight additional systems (total of 108 hard drives) for a capacity up to 54 terabytes (TB) (SATA) or 32.4 TB (SAS). The 5000f will be available before the end of the year at a manufactuer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $5,995 without drives. The Adaptec S50 will be available before the end of November at an MSRP of $2,995 without drives.

Executive Software upgrades Diskeeper Executive Software International Inc. announced a new version of its Diskeeper defragmentation software, version 8.0, which adds support for SAN and NAS.
