Storage Clips: HDS resells Brocade 4 Gbps switches

Hitachi Deskstar gets high marks
Hitachi Data Systems Corp. (HDS) announced it will add Brocade Communications Systems Inc.'s 4 Gbps SilkWorm 48000 SAN director and the Brocade SilkWorm 200E switch to its resell portfolio. HDS already resells Brocade's SilkWorm's 4100 midrange switch.

Separately, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi) announced that system component testing at Intel Corp. has revealed PCMark04 scores in excess of 11,000 for Hitachi's Deskstar 7K500 hard drive. The Deskstar 7K500 includes SATA I/O features, such as 3 Gbps data transfer rate and Native Command Queuing.

Tacit hires VP of engineering
Tacit Networks Inc. announced the appointment of Larry Cantwell as its new vice president of engineering. Cantwell has previously worked for IBM and General Electric Co.; most recently, he was senior director of switching engineering for CNT Corp. (formerly Inrange Technologies and currently part of McData Corp.). Cantwell takes over day-to-day engineering operations from the company's chief technology officer, Shirish Phatak, who will focus on future product development.

EMC names former Microsoft CFO to board
EMC Corp. has named former Microsoft chief financial officer Michael W. Brown to its board of directors, expanding its board to 11 members. Brown retired from Microsoft in 1997. He currently serves on several boards, including Administaff, 360networks, FatKat

Silicon Image announces new processor
Silicon Image Inc. has unveiled the SiI 4723, the latest addition to its SteelVine product line. The SiI 4723 is a SATA to two-port SATA processor that operates at 3 Gbps.
